Robert S. Burney concentrates his practice in business and financing transactions, commercial and industrial real estate, and health care law.

Robert S. Burney is the Chair of Lindabury's Business and Financial Services Group. Since he joined the firm in 1985, he has concentrated his practice in business transactions, secured credit transactions, commercial and industrial real estate, and health care law. He represents clients in the purchase and sale of businesses and business assets, the formation of business entities, and the debt and equity financing of businesses. He also provides general legal advice and serves as point of contact for many of the firm's business clients.

Rob represents banks, insurance companies, and business clients in secured credit transactions, including residential and commercial construction loans, commercial mortgages, term loans, lines of credit, maritime loans, and tax-exempt bond financing.

He also devotes a substantial portion of his practice to commercial and industrial real estate, including the purchase, leasing, subleasing, and financing of industrial, office, and retail properties.

Throughout his career, Rob has also represented hospitals, physician groups, and other healthcare providers in business and regulatory matters, including issues of tax exemption; mergers, consolidations, acquisitions, and conversions; Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement issues; certificates of need and licensure issues; fraud and abuse and "Stark" law issues; physician recruitment and retention; negotiation of provider agreements and managed-care contracts; and financing issues, including tax-exempt, taxable, and FHA-insured financing of heath care facilities, ambulatory care facilities, and medical groups. He has represented 8 hospitals in connection with tax-exempt bond financings and in 2009 was borrower's counsel in a $755 Million mortgage loan to finance the construction of a new state-of-the art hospital. At the time this transaction closed, it was the largest single transaction in the history of the Federal Housing Administration and the largest hospital financing ever in New Jersey. Rob is also the legal counsel for the New Jersey Assisted Living Council, the New Jersey trade organization for operators of assisted living facilities.
