Kenneth L. Estabrook
One of New Jersey’s most prominent attorneys, Kenneth L. Estabrook, a founding partner of Lindabury, McCormick, Estabrook & Cooper, died on November 13, 2003 at Monmouth Medical Center.

At the law firm he helped found, Mr. Estabrook initially concentrated his practice in litigation trying many cases in trial and appellate courts, and administrative tribunals in tort, contract, labor and employment, hospital, and banking areas. In 1952, he commenced his representation of trade association clients, a practice which included associations in construction, business, industry, public utility, and hospital fields, both locally and nationally, and involving many areas of law including antitrust. Representation of major industrial and commercial real estate developers saw Mr. Estabrook active in real estate title work, planning board and board of adjustment presentations, lease and contract negotiations, and financing arrangements, an area in which he practiced extensively until his retirement from active practice.

The Spring Lake resident was admitted to the bars of New York and New Jersey, as well as the U.S. District Court (New Jersey District), the U.S. Court of Appeals, Third Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He was a member of the American, New Jersey State and Union County Bar Associations. He remained Of Counsel at Lindabury, McCormick, Estabrook & Cooper until his death.

Mr. Estabrook graduated from Cornell University in 1949, and took his law degree from Cornell, with distinction, two years later. In 2001, he and his wife, Anne Evans Estabrook, established a scholarship at the Law School, where he had served as Managing Editor of the Cornell Law Quarterly.

Mr. Estabrook’s philanthropic and civic contributions were equal to his legal accomplishments. They included his dedicated service to the Board of Trustees of Kean University, which he served as Chairman until last year. He also served as a Director of Kessler Rehabilitation Corporation, a Trustee of Kessler Medical Rehabilitation Research and Education Corporation, a Trustee of the Frost Valley YMCA and the Community Foundation of New Jersey, and a New Jersey Committee member of the Regional Plan Association. Past associations included Chairman and Trustee of the Union County Alliance, President of the Elizabeth (Eastern Union County) YMCA, Trustee of the Welkind Rehabilitation Hospital, Director and Counsel to the Union County Chamber of Commerce, Counsel to The 200 Club of Union County, President of the Linden Rotary Club, Director of United Counties Trust Company and Secretary to the Linden Industrial Association. He was a devoted member of Baltusrol Golf Club, serving on its Board of Governors for many years. He was also a member of the Spring Lake Golf Club.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Estabrook is survived by his children, David, James, Jeffrey and Scott, stepchildren David Gibbons, Mary Gibbons and Anne Marie Gibbons Lejnieks, and ten grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to Cornell Law School, Attn: Dean Harry Ash, Myron Taylor Hall, Ithaca, NY 14853; the Kean University Foundation, 1000 Morris Avenue, Union, NJ 07083; or Frost Valley YMCA, 40 South Fullerton Avenue, Montclair, NJ 07042.
