For more than 30 years, Peter Somers has concentrated his practice on labor law, with a particular emphasis on union avoidance. Peter has extensive experience before the National Labor Relations Board and as lead counsel in employer negotiations with various labor organizations. In addition, he represents corporate clients before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights, the Wage and Hour Divisions of the New Jersey, the U.S. Department of Labor, and the Occupational Safety and Health Commission, among others.
Through the course of his career, Peter has represented many New Jersey healthcare organizations as their labor counsel, including Bayonne Hospital, Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation, Pascack Valley, Raritan Bay Medical Center, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and the Visiting Nurses Association of Delaware Valley. He has served as lead spokesperson in negotiations with numerous healthcare and industrial labor organizations; provided advice concerning the processing of grievances; represented hospitals in labor arbitration proceedings; provided assistance in formulating, implementing and the application of Human Resources Policies; and assisted clients in achieving successful results in representation elections (including decertification of incumbent labor organizations).
In private sector negotiations, he has concluded negotiations with these labor organizations:

- Various Teamster locals;
- United Auto Workers (UAW);
- International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM);
- United Steel Workers of America;
- Health Professionals and Allied Employees (HPAE);
- Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union (OCAW);
- Jersey Nurses Economic Security Organization (JNESO);
- United Paperworkers International Union (UPIU);
- United Association of Journeymen and Pipefitters of the U.S. and Canada;
- Communications Workers of America (CWA);
- International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW)
Peter has spoken frequently at labor law conferences, including those sponsored by the National Labor Relations Board, the Union County Chamber of Commerce and the New Jersey Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administrators. He is a past vice-president and secretary of the New Jersey Society of Hospital Attorneys.
