For more than thirty years, Peter M. Burke has practiced in the areas of litigation and corporate law. He is certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Civil Trial Attorney. Peter has litigated and tried a wide variety of civil cases in the state and federal courts in New Jersey and New York. The range of cases include, but are not limited to, corporate and commercial disputes, intracompany disputes among shareholders or partners, discrimination claims, will contests, products liability and warranty claims, franchise disputes, defense of fire insurance claims and labor matters. In addition to litigating matters in court, he has participated as an advocate in a variety of arbitrations and mediations as an alternative method of resolving disputes. In a non-advocacy role, he serves as a court-appointed mediator in the Superior Court of New Jersey and as a court-appointed arbitrator in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.
In addition to his trial practice, he counsels a number of corporations in various facets of their business activities as well as out of the ordinary matters such as mergers and acquisitions.
Prior to entering private practice, Peter served as a law secretary to the late Scott M. Long, Jr., a judge of the Superior Court of New Jersey who sat in Morris County.
Peter has been involved in various civic and charitable endeavors during the course of his career. Most recently, he has served as a member of the board of trustees of the New Jersey Center for Visual Arts and as president of the Summit Speech School. He has likewise served six year terms as a member of the board of trustees of both the Somerset Hills Adult Day Center (four years as president) and the Somerset Hills Chapter of the American Red Cross (two years as president).
