Ron Hershkowitz joined the firm in July of 2001, after serving as corporate counsel for 23 years with Western Electric, AT&T, Lucent Technologies and Avaya Inc., concentrating on labor and employment matters. Along with John Goemaat, Ron brings to our practice the insight and critical perspective of an in-house lawyer.
Ron has extensive experience in a wide variety of employment law issues, including federal and state employment discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). He has represented his companies before the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission (EEOC) and state fair employment agencies. He has also provided advice and counsel to his clients on Employee Retiree Income Security Act (ERISA) and Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
On the labor side, Ron has provided advice and counsel under the National Labor Relations Act, with particular emphasis on collective bargaining agreements with the Communications Workers of America (CWA) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). He has also represented his companies before the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and tried arbitration cases.
While in-house counsel, Ron also had business law experience, helping negotiate and draft contracts for both domestic and international transactions and providing legal counsel regarding marketing and sales operations, business strategy and new market development. He has also handled commercial litigation and immigration issues.
Earlier in his career, Ron worked as a Congressional Liaison for AT&T in Washington D.C., representing the company’s interests in the areas of communications policy, computer fraud, privacy, antitrust, intellectual property and trade regulations before Congressional Committees. He also was involved in pretrial preparation in U.S. v.
