Bill Watkins concentrates his practice in public utility, energy and regulatory law; health care law; and corporate law and business transactions.
Since joining the firm in 1973, Bill’s practice has emphasized matters relating to electric and natural gas service, originally for industrial and large commercial users, and more recently also for wholesale power producers and retail energy suppliers. He has extensive experience representing individual users in a multitude of energy-related projects, transactions, and complaint proceedings, as well as representing groups of customers as intervenors in major utility rate proceedings before the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, the Office of Administrative Law and other bodies. He has also handled numerous matters involving various other regulated services, such as water, transportation, telecommunications, sewer, and solid waste, on behalf of both utilities and their customers.
Bill also has expertise in handling a variety of regulatory and other matters in the health care field on behalf of hospitals, individual physicians and physician groups, and other providers. His work includes representation of clients in the purchase, sale, or consolidation of professional practices, extensive experience in negotiating and drafting contracts, performing fraud and abuse analyses, counseling tax-exempt entities, and involvement with compliance, privacy, rate reimbursement, and certificate of need matters. He serves as a Co-Chair of the Lindabury Health Care Group.
Additionally, Bill is experienced in handling a wide array of commercial transactions and contract negotiations, including the organization, purchase and/or sale of businesses, employment contracts and executive compensation, benefits and severance, and the purchase/sale or leasing of real property.
