wwatkins@lindabury.com Bill Watkins joined Lindabury immediately following graduation from law school in 1973 and has worked with the firm continuously since then, becoming a partner of the firm in 1979. At the inception of his career, Bill began developing experience and expertise in both public utility law and health care law, and has continued practicing in both fields over his entire career. A former Chair of the Public Utility Section of the New Jersey Bar Association, Bill has extensive experience representing the interests of both individual and groups of industrial and large commercial energy users in matters relating to natural gas and electric service, both in administrative proceedings before regulatory agencies, such as the NJ Board of Public Utilities, and in negotiating contractual arrangements for de-regulated services. He has also handled myriad matters involving other regulated services, such as water, transportation, telecommunications, sewer and solid waste, on behalf of both utilities and their customers. Bill also has experience in handling a variety of regulatory and other matters in the health care field on behalf of hospitals, physicians, dentists, therapists and other providers. His work includes representation of clients in the purchase, sale, expansion or consolidation of professional practices, extensive experience in negotiating and drafting employment agreements and other contracts, undertaking fraud and abuse analyses, counseling tax exempt entities, and involvement with compliance, privacy, rate reimbursement and certificate of need and other regulatory matters. Additionally, Bill is adept at handling a wide array of commercial transactions and contract negotiations for businesses and individuals, including the organization, purchase and/or sale of businesses, employment contracts and executive compensation issues, benefits and severance agreements, independent contractor agreements and agreements for the purchase/sale or leasing of real or personal property. Bill has assumed a lead role in the firm’s operations and management for more than two decades, and in addition to actively representing a diverse group of clients in handling their legal matters, he devotes a substantial portion of his working time serving in the capacity of the firm’s Chief Operating Officer and as an ex-officio member of the firm’s Executive Committee. This in-house management function has greatly enhanced his understanding and experience with respect to a wide array of issues facing mid-size businesses, particularly including professional practices, and his ability to provide clients with effective guidance, problem-solving advice and counsel. Bill serves on the Advisory Board for Legus, a network of both domestic and international law firms, of which Lindabury is a member.
