Education
General Description: The Education Law Group at Lindabury has extensive experience in the area of school law. We serve as general counsel, special education counsel, labor counsel and/or negotiator for several dozen boards throughout the state. Our practice entails representing boards of education with respect to all legal aspects of their activities, including administrative and PERC hearings, arbitration grievances, budget hearings, budget and cap waiver appeals, and all aspects of state and federal mandates and state funding and school consolidations. We attend board meetings, draft and review board policies, review construction contracts, prepare lease purchase financing documents and bid specifications, review seniority lists and personnel matters, design personnel policies, negotiate labor agreements and other contracts, and provide legal opinions on all areas of labor relations and school district operations. In the area of special education, we have participated in mediation, administrative hearings, and represented school boards in the United States District Court. As negotiator and labor relations specialists, we assist or direct negotiations with employee groups, consult with administrators, human resource specialists, and operations managers; prepare agreements, letters, reports and other correspondence as needed; design and develop salary policies, salary guides, and scattergrams; handle fact-finding and mediation sessions; and represent school boards before tribunal agencies and courts concerning negotiations and labor relations. We often conduct workshops, seminars, in-service programs, and professional development courses for school board members and educational professionals. |
