{"id":4769,"date":"2021-05-26T17:43:03","date_gmt":"2021-05-26T21:43:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lindabury.com\/firm\/?p=4769"},"modified":"2025-02-05T10:52:23","modified_gmt":"2025-02-05T15:52:23","slug":"new-jerseys-lifting-of-mask-mandates-does-not-apply-to-workplaces-not-open-to-the-public","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lindabury.com\/firm\/insights\/labor-employment-insights\/new-jerseys-lifting-of-mask-mandates-does-not-apply-to-workplaces-not-open-to-the-public.html","title":{"rendered":"New Jersey&#8217;s Lifting of Mask Mandates DOES NOT Apply to Workplaces Not Open to The Public"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many across the State are celebrating Governor Murphy\u2019s Executive Order (EO) No. 242 lifting the mask and social distancing mandates for businesses and workplaces put in place by EO 192 at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic.\u00a0 Specifically, EO 242 states that individuals in <strong>\u201cindoor public spaces\u201d<\/strong> are no longer required to comply with these mandates regardless of their vaccination status.\u00a0 Unvaccinated individuals \u201cshould\u201d continue to wear mask in indoor public spaces but are not required to do so.\u00a0\u00a0 EO 242 includes limited exceptions for childcare centers, youth summer camps, schools , health facilities and other facilities.<\/p>\n<p>However, for those business that do not qualify as <strong>\u201cindoor public places\u201d <\/strong>\u00a0the mask and social distancing mandates imposed by EO 192 remain in effect.\u00a0\u00a0 EO 242 expressly states that \u201cindoor public spaces\u201d do not include indoor workplaces that do not open their indoor spaces to the public for the purpose of selling goods, attending activities, or providing services.\u00a0 According to EO 242, individuals in these indoor workplaces that are not open to the general public must continue to wear face coverings, subject only to the previously recognized exceptions, i.e., when the employee is at distances workstations or offices, and continue six feet social distancing to the maximum extent possible.<\/p>\n<p>While there has been significant media coverage about the Governor\u2019s lifting of restrictions, very few outlets have reported on the continuing requirement to observe COVID-19 protocols in private workplaces.\u00a0\u00a0 Intuitively, these private places may be safer than those workplaces that invite members of the general public into their premises, but until further relief comes from the Governor\u2019s Office, these requirements remain in effect.<\/p>\n<div class=\"read_more_link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lindabury.com\/firm\/insights\/labor-employment-insights\/new-jerseys-lifting-of-mask-mandates-does-not-apply-to-workplaces-not-open-to-the-public.html\"  title=\"Continue Reading New Jersey&#8217;s Lifting of Mask Mandates DOES NOT Apply to Workplaces Not Open to The Public\" class=\"more-link\">Continue Reading \u203a<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many across the State are celebrating Governor Murphy\u2019s Executive Order (EO) No. 242 lifting the mask and social distancing mandates for businesses and workplaces put in place by EO 192 at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic.\u00a0 Specifically, EO 242 states that individuals in \u201cindoor public spaces\u201d are no longer required to comply with these [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[247],"tags":[],"coauthors":[139],"class_list":["post-4769","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-labor-employment-insights"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.7 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>New Jersey&#039;s Lifting of Mask Mandates DOES NOT Apply to Workplaces Not Open to The Public &#8212; May 26, 2021 &#8212; Lindabury, McCormick, Estabrook &amp; Cooper, P.C.
