Peter M. Burke
Peter M. Burke concentrates his practice in the areas of litigation and corporate law.
For over forty years, Peter M. Burke has practiced in the areas of litigation and corporate law. He is certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Civil Trial Attorney.
He has litigated and tried a wide variety of civil cases in the state and federal courts in New Jersey and New York. The range of cases includes, but is not limited to, corporate and commercial disputes, intracompany disputes among shareholders or partners, will contests, discrimination claims, products liability and warranty claims, franchise disputes, defense of fire insurance claims and labor matters. In addition to litigating matters in court, he has participated as an advocate in a variety of arbitrations and mediations as an alternative method of resolving disputes. In a non-advocacy role, he has served as a court-appointed mediator in the Superior Court of New Jersey and as a court-appointed arbitrator in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. He is a member of the New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators.
In addition to his trial practice, he counsels a number of corporations in various facets of their business activities.
Peter has been involved in various civic and charitable endeavors during the course of his career. He currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills and CAFRICO which funds a medical clinic in rural Uganda. He has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the North Jersey Chapter of Legatus (four years as president), and as a member of the Board of Trustees of the New Jersey Center for Visual Arts. He has likewise served six year terms as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Summit Speech School (two years as president), the Somerset Hills Adult Day Center (four years as president) and the Somerset Hills Chapter of the American Red Cross (two years as president).
Since its inception in New Jersey in 2005, Peter has been included in the New Jersey Super Lawyers list in the areas of business or estate and trust litigation. In 2011, Peter was named a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, a honorary society composed of less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers. Peter has an AV rating with Martindale-Hubbell, has been selected as a Best Lawyer in America in Trusts and Estates every year since 2013 and in 2015 he was selected by Best Lawyers in America as one of the “Lawyers of the Year” in Trusts and Estates – Newark.
