Athina Cornell’s practice is primarily devoted to representing boards of education in a variety of areas, including special education, personnel and labor negotiations. She serves as both general counsel and special education counsel to boards of education throughout the state. Her practice also consists of representing management in employment and labor matters including litigation of sexual harassment, discrimination, wrongful discharge, breach of contract and whistleblower claims.
Admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York, and before the District Court of New Jersey and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, Athina represents board of education through all court levels. She has lectured on special education, school law issues and employment topics and provides training to administrators as well as school staff.
While attending Seton Hall University School of Law, Athina chaired the Women’s Law Forum and served as a member of The Journal of Sport Law, as well as a member of the Health Law & Policy Program. She has also received several awards for trial advocacy, including quarter-final finishes in the University of Minnesota Civil Rights Moot Court Competition and University of Wisconsin Constitutional Law Moot Court Competition.
