James McGlew II is a New Jersey divorce and family law attorney who helps individuals resolve difficult family law matters including divorce, child custody, parenting time, alimony, child support, equitable distribution, marital settlement agreements and prenuptial agreements. As Co-Chair of Lindabury's Divorce & Family Law Practice Group, Jim brings decades of courtroom, appellate, mediation and settlement experience to clients facing some of the most personal legal decisions of their lives.
Jim represents clients in matters involving contested and uncontested divorce, child custody, parenting time, relocation disputes, alimony, child support, equitable distribution of marital assets, business and professional practice interests, marital settlement agreements, prenuptial agreements and post-judgment enforcement or modification issues.
Based in Lindabury's New Providence office, Jim represents clients in Union County and throughout New Jersey in divorce, custody, and support related family law matters. Jim understands that divorce and custody disputes can affect every part of a client's life. He works to give clients clear advice, practical options and a realistic understanding of the process, whether the matter can be resolved through settlement or requires strong courtroom advocacy.
Jim's more than 30 years of service as a Panelist/Mediator on the Union County Matrimonial Early Settlement Panel gives him deep insight into how experienced family law attorneys and courts evaluate divorce disputes. That experience helps him assess settlement positions, identify practical solutions and guide clients toward cost-effective resolutions when settlement is possible. The goal of the Early Settlement Panel, and the Panelists who volunteer, is to assist litigants in equitably settling their issues in the most cost-effective manner whenever possible.
Jim's skill and experience as a divorce attorney have been recognized by the Bench by his judicial appointments to serve as a Mediator, Discovery Master and Receiver in divorce litigation.
Jim is a frequent lecturer and has been a presenter at various Family Law seminars hosted by the Union County Bar Association. The topics of his seminar presentations are varied and wide-ranging and have included Prosecuting and Defending Marital Torts in Divorce Proceedings as well as the Relocation of Children Out-of-State by the Custodial Parent.
In addition to serving as the Chair of the firm’s Divorce & Family Law practice, Jim also serves as a member of Lindabury’s Alternate Dispute Resolution Group, where he manages his private divorce mediation practice. Jim is a Court-approved mediator and has extensive experience working with both parties to achieve an amicable settlement.
Jim's professional reputation extends beyond his client work. He is a former Chair of the District XII Ethics Committee of the New Jersey Supreme Court and was named Professional Lawyer of the Year by the Union County Bar Association and the New Jersey State Bar Association's Commission on Professionalism. His leadership reflects a long-standing commitment to professionalism, ethics and service to the legal community.
